“Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.”

Over the past few years I’ve explored blogs, articles, and a few books about the climate crisis, as well as several documentaries and numerous short videos. Of all these resources the one I’ve liked best is this short, beautifully animated Youtube video from the Youtube channel Kurzgesagt.1

The video summarizes the incredible complexity and nuances of climate change and talks honestly about potential solutions. It’s not a doomsday piece, but it doesn’t pull punches. I admire their aim towards objectivity, for trying to see the many layers of this massive issue.

This quote struck me:

“In the end, if we truly get the systemic change we need, everybody will be unhappy about some aspect of it. Only if we all accept that some solutions will have negative impacts for us, can we have an honest conversation and make progress. Everybody will be a little unhappy and that’s okay.”

Anyways, I recommend watching it and hope you enjoy!2

  1. The name is German for “shortly said.” Their Youtube channel has tons of awesome and educational videos. They also have a Spanish channel, En Pocos Palabras.
  2. (somewhat related) Another one of my favorite short videos is this one called Overview. Astronauts talk about what it’s like to see our planet from space and the profound effect it has on them. Gives me chills.
